We decided to go camping to Moab over this last weekend. We planned ahead, got everything cooked and packed. We even made sure our SUV was working properly and put a lot of money into it getting it in good working order for our trip. This cute '95 4Runner of ours has been nothing but trouble for us though. I picked up Brent from work on Thursday at 2:00ish and we set out on our adventure. We got as far as about Lindon and the Automatic Transmission Fluid Temperature light came on. We got off the Freeway and got it checked out by a mechanic in Provo. He said the fluid was burning up and wouldn't recommend driving clear to Moab in the 4Runner.
So we turned around and headed back home. We were really bummed and kept trying to think of where we could go instead that wasn't freezing cold that was closer to home. Brent had the idea to go to Farmington Canyon, we remembered seeing a campground there. So we grabbed our other car so that I could follow Brent there and have a second car in case there were any problems. We drove up and up and up the mountain. We didn't remember it being so high up on the mountain. We got to the campground and there were big patches of snow all over. We were all so set on going camping that we decided freezin' cold or not, by golly we were going to camp!
So Brent set up the tent, made a fire with firewood we brought up, and we cooked some tinfoil dinners and roasted marshmallows for S'mores.
Chico loved every minute of it. He didn't seem to remember camping from last year... back when he was grumpy and wouldn't play with his toys. He was a new man this year though, played with his toys and had a blast.
We made it through the cold night suprisingly well. Nelmo had to share a sleeping bag with me which was a bit uncomfortable, but it kept him warm and sleeping so I'll take it. :)
Next morning was cold but everyone was still in good spirits. After breakfast and exploring for a bit we packed up and went home around noon.
We got home and were laying around on our couch feeling sorry for ourselves about our missed trip to Moab. Then Brent all the sudden had the idea to go to Moab in our Honda without all of our food and food preparing bins since we'd be only staying for one night.
It was a brilliant idea and all the sudden we had this huge burst of energy and we unloaded everything we could fit into the Honda. Threw the kids in and headed out.
So we went from having the view from our campground Thursday night looking like this....
to the view looking like this on Friday...
All of our adventures from Moab coming soon!
