Pics from Camp and our Hike in the Tetons!

We had a fun time cooking meals all together.  Looks like Em and I are about to say the same thing at the same time...or we both hold our lips the same way when we cut vegetables...

Brent did an awesome job taking care of the fire and dutch ovens for the whole group while we were camping. You know, the manly duties. :)

Cute picture of Mom and Griz.

Who is Griz you ask? Well that would be Grizwald Hatch, formerly known as Nelmo on this blog. Nelmo just doesn't fit him in my mind. I've been wanting to change it for quite some time. Lately Brent has been calling him Grizwald or Grizzly Adams (except for instead of "Adams" we insert his actual name if you know what I'm sayin'). SOOO anyway, I like it and I'm going to call him Griz on this blog, okay? He fits the name Griz because he's just often so messy and his hair is often sticking up all over the place. He's our little mountain man, and he's always getting into things.  He's so curious about the world and wants to be part of whatever Chico is doing.  His favorite foods lately are... whatever he can get into his mouth before mommy pulls it out. Sticks, dirt, rocks, you name it.  His hair is actually laying down quite nicely in these pictures. But once he smears food and dirt and snot in that hair, it's all over the place. :)

Must also be because we're camping...

And now for the TETONS!

Since we were just a couple hours away from the Tetons we couldn't resist going up there for a hike. On our way up when we reached Jackson (about an hour from where we camped) I realized we forgot Chico's shoes. (He had sandles but that wouldn't cut it). Luckily K-Mart opens bright and early in Jackson and he got new shoes. He had been needing to get the next size or two up anyway so it was all good. While we were shoe shopping we found out a man had been killed by a bear in Yellowstone the day before. Brent had been meaning to buy some Bear Spray, so that reminded us to buy some right then too! With all of that, we were set and headed up to the beautiful Tetons! We pulled over and took some pictures while I changed and fed Griz.

The Tetons are just unlike any other mountain range. They are just so beautiful! As you can see, they still have a TON of snow on them. Which meant the more difficult hikes were muddy and snow covered. So we heard about the hike to Hidden Falls around Jenny Lake which was less difficult.  It was going to be a 5 mile round trip plus and extra 2 or more depending how high you wanted to climb above the falls up to inspiration point.  Sounded good to us.

We were blown away by the beautiful scenery, the colors of the trees and the lake were breathtaking.

Chico was more interested in climbing up every boulder we came across.

He is actually really really really good at climbing.

See that giant mosquito bite on his face? The mosquitos were TERRIBLE up there this year.

Chico seriously would go from boulder to boulder and would rock climb any that he was able. I was starting to get impatient about how long it was taking. Brent gently reminded me that Chico and I just have different interests.  Which leads into the next set of pictures which are scenery pictures that Brent and I took along the trail.

We could tell Chico was getting tired so Griz got kicked out of the backpack and Chico took his place.  He eventually fell asleep and got a little nap in.

The hike up to Inspiration Point was the steepest part of the trail, it was really rocky. I saw a teenage girl have a nervous breakdown on the way up.  I didn't think it was that bad personally but whatev. I'm not scared of heights so I just can't understand.

We ate our lunch at the top of Inspiration Point, then Chico started scampering up more boulders. This particular one I darted up after him because we were up on a steep ledge.

We hiked for a bit longer and came across Chico's dream rock wall.  Here he is with Brent in the picture so you can get an idea how high up he had gotten himself.

and the rest of these show him going "up and up and up!"

Okay enough of that, it raises my blood pressure just looking at those pictures. :)

Onto more scenery!

Why didn't I get a picture of Griz at lunch? I attacked him with a wet wipe after lunch and that's why he looks so clean and nice in the pic below. He had been practically bathing in the dirt during lunch though, it was so funny to watch.

They were getting this big tree down the mountain to fix a bridge apparently.

See that smirk on his face?  He had just whacked a teenage boy's bum with that stick. The kid was low riding his pants a bit and you could see his boxers. Chico just went up and tapped him on the butt. These ladies saw it and were laughing so hard.  I can't figure out why he does stuff like that. Oh well, I don't know if I'll ever understand him.  He was so cute on the hike, he'd ask everybody, "What's your name?" and they'd answer and ask him what his name was. He'd either ignore them or blow raspberries at them.

Hidden Falls.  Sorry the picture isn't better, you can't see the falls very well, they're kinda hidden. Lol, oh man I crack myself up.

Brent was amazing as always. He carried 10x the weight as I did during the whole hike, drank less water than me, and complained about 10x less than I did.  I was so exhausted by the end of our 7 mile journey. I don't know how he does it. He is such a strong man.

Sounds like such a great trip! I wish I was as brave as you in taking my kids hiking! They look like they are having the time of their lives!

Thank you, but it's also 10x easier for me because I'm 10x heavier.
